- What is the difference between a fuse panel and a breaker panel?
- A fuse panel protects each circuit with a replaceable fuse; a breaker panel uses resettable circuit breakers. Fuse panels are smaller and less expensive per circuit, which makes them the usual choice for electronics and accessory sub-panels and for high-amperage feeds where a fuse (ANL, MRBF or Class T) is the right protection. Breaker panels are the better fit for main distribution and anything a crew needs to switch and reset. Most boats use both, and we build both.
- What fuse types do you build panels around?
- ATO/ATC blade fuses for branch circuits up to 30 A, MAXI fuses up to 80 A, and ANL, MRBF terminal fuses and Class T fuses for battery banks, inverters, windlasses and other high-amperage feeds. Blade panels can include blown-fuse indication and a negative bus so each circuit lands in one place.
- Are your fuse panels ignition protected?
- We build on Blue Sea Systems fuse blocks, which are ignition protected, so the panels are suitable for engine rooms and other spaces where gasoline fumes may collect. Tell us where the panel mounts and we specify the enclosure and fuse types accordingly.
- Can you size the fuses for my circuits?
- Yes. Send the circuit list with wire sizes and loads and we size each fuse to protect the conductor per ABYC E-11, label the panel to match and include a fuse schedule with the panel.
- Do you build fuse panels for lithium batteries and inverters?
- Yes. Lithium banks and large inverters need high interrupt-capacity protection, which is where Class T and MRBF fuses come in. We build the fuse panel or battery-side protection to the bank and inverter you specify, with the busbars and labeling to match.
- Do you sell prefabricated fuse panels?
- Prefabricated fuse panels in the most popular circuit counts are coming soon. There is no limit on circuit count: every panel is built to order from your circuit list today, usually quoted within one business day.
